A Short Akon Background

Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam is the real name of the Artist Akon (born 14 October 1981 in St. Louis, Missouri; raised in Dakar, Senegal), is an R&B and Hip Hop singer, song writer, record producer, and record executive.


Mor Thiam  the jazz percussionist is the father of Akon. He grew up in Senegal until he became 7 years old then he moved with his family to the US, New Jersey. He attended the Snyder High School where he discovered hip hop music. However, he was sent to jail since he was a drug dealer so he spent his time at jail working on his music. Upon release, Akon began recording his own songs in his own home studio. The tapes found their way to SRC/Universal which produced his album "Trouble". This is where Akon's success started.

Akon's Unreleased Album " Akonic"

This album was supposed to be released at the beginning of the year 2010.However, the album didn't get completed. Now its supposed to be released in 2011. However, this was proven false as the album will actually be released on November 29, 2010. Akon stated that the album's name also may change to " Stadium" or "Stadium Music". Two songs got released as singles the first one is " Nosy Neighbor" and the second one is "Party Animal" which are both produced by David Guetta. "Angel" which is also released is going to be the album's lead single.

Akon's Album "Freedom"

This album was released on December 2, 2008 which had four singles: "Right Now", "I'm so paid", "Beautiful" and " We don't care". Akon worked as well with David Guetta producing a song " Sexy chick" that became a very popular song at that summer. Reaching number one in more than 6 countries, and charting at 5 on the Billboard Hit 100 , it is featured on Guetta's One Love album. This song became worldwide. Not to forget, that akon worked with Micheal Jackson at this time and before his death. They had a great relationship and Akon stated that any artist is lucky to work with The King Of Pop.

Akon's Album "Trouble"

 It was released at June 29, 2004 bringing with it the hit singles "Locked up", "Lonely", and "Belly dancer" which reached top 10 in the US and the UK and these songs were written by Akon himself when he was at jail because of the game he created " GTA" (Grand Theft Auto).The song "Ghetto" became a radio hit when it it got remixed to include 2Pac and some other great artists. The song "Lonely" reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100. This song became so popular and played by so many people. And when Akon was featured in the song" Soul Survivor" with Young Jeezy, he became more and more popular.

Akon's Album "Konvicted"

This album was released on November 14, 2006. It featured so many great artists such as Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Styles P. Late. The song " Smack that", which was with Eminem, was a great hit for Akon. It stayed number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100  for 5 consecutive weeks which is actually a huge record for Akon. Rarely do songs stay at the top of that Billboard for too long. He sold 285000 copies of the album in only one week. And after six weeks more that 1 million was sold. All these records only in the US. However, 2.2 million were sold all around the world. This album brought many awards for Akon such as on Annual Grammy Awards.
